 Merit

In this section, I have been asked to justify why I have used different tools and techniques that i have used throughout the creation of my graphics. I will briefly talk about these before saying why I have chosen to use them above other alternatives that I could have used.

Logo:

Software- I chose to use Adobe Photoshop to create my logo because of the tools and techniques that it utilizes. Photoshop is the best software of its type and I have it at my disposal. This means that I was able to select from a huge range of different tools and techniques to make my logo look as professional as possible. This is why I have chosen Photoshop.

Tools- An example of some of the tools that I used was the magic wand tool. This is used to crop down a larger image to make it smaller or to get rid of any unwanted areas. I used this to crop down the logo design from the original document. I chose this tool as it is really simple to do and can be done multiple times on the same image.

File Format- As my file format for my logo, I chose a JPG. I converted my finished graphic from a PSD to a JPG because WordPress won’t accept the Photoshop file format. I chose a JPG because it is a very popular file format that is accepted on all websites. It is also very high quality in terms of resolution and has a very small file size so its easy to store and upload.

Image Resolution- The image resolution that I have chosen for my logo is 72 ppi. The organisation asked me to use this resolution for a few graphic designs and they were good quality when I exported them so I decided to do the same to the logo. This is the base resolution that Photoshop suggest when creating a new page so it provides a good quality image for every user.

Colour Depth- I didn’t use a lot of colour depth on my logo because I wanted to keep it relatively simple. I have chosen to do this because the park wants to attract people of all ages so I have chosen neutral colours to ensure that it doesn’t favor one particular age group. This is to ensure that the designs will still be attractive to everyone so that as many people visit the park as possible.

Banner:

Software- I chose to use Adobe Photoshop to create my banner because of the tools and techniques that it utilizes. Photoshop is the best software of its type and I have it at my disposal. This means that I was able to select from a huge range of different tools and techniques to make my banner look as professional as possible. This is why I have chosen Photoshop.

Tools- An example of a tool that I used to make banner was the paint bucket tool. I used this to fill in the main area with colour. The reason that I have chosen to use this tool is because that it quickly fills in an area quickly with a solid fill. This would be much quicker than using a paint brush to fill it in.

File Format-  The file format that I have chosen for my banner is a JPG. This is for the same reason as the every other design that I have created because it is accepted on all websites and it has a good resolution and a small file size.

This is the base resolution that Photoshop suggest when creating a new page so it provides a good quality image for every user.

Colour Depth- I have chosen to go with a low-level of colour depth on my web banner. I incorporated one only base colour to make up the background of my banner. The reason I did this was because I used fairly complex images on my web banner which had a lot of different colours on them. This is why I didn’t include a high-level of colour depth in the graphic as I feel the amount of colour will overpower the user and it will not look professional.

Letterhead:

Software- I chose to use Adobe Photoshop to create my letterhead because of the tools and techniques that it utilizes. Photoshop is the best software of its type and I have it at my disposal. This means that I was able to select from a huge range of different tools and techniques to make my letterhead look as professional as possible. This is why I have chosen Photoshop.

Tools- An example of a tool that I used on my letterhead is the vertical text tool. This offers the same features as any other text box, except it allows me to type vertical, as opposed to horizontally. The reason I decided to use this on my letterhead was because it allowed me to fill in space on the borders, without taking up too much room. Also, it adds variation in terms of different techniques used on my letterhead.

File Format- The file format that I have chosen for my letterhead is a JPG. This is for the same reason as the every other design that I have created because it is accepted on all websites and it has a good resolution and small file size.

This is the base resolution that Photoshop suggest when creating a new page so it provides a good quality image for every user.

Colour Depth- I have also included a low-level of colour depth on my letterhead. I have chosen for the letterhead area of the document to be a plain white colour with the only colour being from the logo and images. I have chosen to do this because letters are usually written as formal documents. This means that it shouldn’t contain many vibrant colours because it would look unprofessional.

Newsletter:

Software- I chose to use Microsoft Word to create my newsletter because of the ease of use that it has. The newsletter design was created for the purpose of being a template for the user to edit at different times. So to make it easy for the user to do this, I have chosen Microsoft Word as it is the market leader in its field and is used throughout the world. Also, it is easy for novices to make documents on.

Tools- An example of a tool that I used on Microsoft Word is the shape tool. Word has a huge range of different tools and techniques and an even bigger selection of shapes to choose from. I used lines from this selection to divide different areas of the newsletter. I chose this because of it’s ease of use and because it is easy to move around the document.

File Format- The file format that I have chosen for my letterhead is a JPG. This is for the same reason as the every other design that I have created because it is accepted on all websites and it has a good resolution and small file size.

Image Resolution- There is no image resolution for the newsletter because it is a Word document which doesn’t require a resolution when creating the document.

Colour Depth- I have chosen to include a high-level of colour depth on my newsletter to make it more appealing. I used multiple colours on my logo, images and fonts because the purpose of a newsletter is to make people want to read it. I believe that using many colours will be eye-catching and will make people want to look at it.
